The VT18 appeared in 1963, the old east German National Railways (the DR).
It was an international high-speed long distance Diesel super-express train.
It was mass-produced in 8 different formations.
At the beginning of its run, the train was operated with only a 4-car formation, but a 2-car formation was added afterwards which increased it to a 6-car length.
The train was in operation as the international super express which ran between the European cities, Berlin and Copenhagen.

This train appears in the 1978/79 Lima catalog as a set.
It is packed in original box.
The engine body is not attached to the drive unit in the front, there appears no way to secure it.
The contents of set are listed below:
- #201700LG German standard shunter of the German Railways "DB", the steam locomotives of the 80 series were built for heavy shunting operations, until 1928 many different factories had manufactured a total of 39 units. After the war the mojority of these locomotives were in the Lipsia area and only 17 units came back to the "DB". In 1965 the remaining locomotives were withdrawn from service.

The four car 403/404 combined the latest technology including powered axles, air conditioning and comfortable seating.
Each train featured a streamlined leading and trailer coach, pullman and dining car with secretarial service.
With the introduction of a second class Inter-city summer service in 1979, the train had plenty of special appeal to tourists.
The prototype eventually was used by Deutsche Lufthansa for service between the airports of Dusseldorf and Frankfort.

German 14 9742P Intercity ET 403/404.
The electric multiple-unit trains Class 403/404 of the German Federal Railways (DB) were introduced in 1973
and are considered among the most advanced express trains in Germany.
They feature all powered axles, air-cushioned suspension and an automatic body-tilting device.
These first class trains can carry 183 passengers at 125 mph,
the top speed being attainable in just two minutes.

Background:
Three new trains for fast intercity-netz were ordered in 1970 by the German Railway "DN".
The four car 403/404 combined the latest technology including powered axles, air conditioning and comfortable seating.
Each train featured a streamlined leading and trailer coach, pullman and dining car with secretarial service.
With the introduction of a second class Inter-city summer service in 1979, the train had plenty of special appeal to tourists.
The prototype eventually was used by Deutsche Lufthansa for service between the airports of Dusseldorf and Frankfort.
