1. Does each 2" X 55" display case include two end caps?
One end is factory sealed with clear plastic. The other end has a removable cap that is a milky plastic appearance.
2. If a tube is cut into two tubes, do I need to order two additional end caps?
Yes, each cut will require two end caps.
3. Since it's a tube, I assume that the cars can only be inserted via the ends?
(The display tube doesn't flip open, correct?)
Yes, both questions above. The insert slides out, allowing vehicles to be placed on it your way. Although not the only method of holding the vehicles, I am using double sided carpet tape, black in color, in a thin strip on the rear of the insert to hold the contents where they are placed. Only one wheel is on the tape and it is enough to hold the piece. Maybe not completely upside down however..
4. How long have you had this product?
The idea is older than the product. I started looking for a container about 1996. Had a prototype by 1997. And the finished tube in August 1998. The tubes that are in the pictures on the web site have been there since late 1998.
5. I'm curious if the plastic will "fog" or discolor over time. Is the plastic recycled or from virgin material.
Until the present time, there has been no change in the tube's condition. In my testing, there was nothing that affected this material. The plastic is a form of PVC, with a vinyl feel and flexibility. All new material.
6. Can you explain how you use a 2" wire hook to hang the display on a pegboard?
I have two methods of displaying the tubes, so far.
Since the pegboard is always the same size, it is
similar to wallpaper, cut to whatever size is needed in
a given wall space.
I have used 1 x 2 inch strips of
cheap grade wood, with picture frame angle cuts on the
ends to frame the pegboard around the perimeter with a
vertical bracing strip anywhere it seems appropriate for
strength.
One 90 degree angle on the top, attached to wall, to
prevent forward movement of the board into your room.
4
of the same angle pcs. on the bottom for support.
2 of
these are in the up position against the bottom, and 2
of them are reversed to the down position.
Each angle
iron has 4 screws, and they are small.
Method two consists of white pvc tubing in the 1/2 in.
size. "T" connectors, and caps in all ends.
Measure the
vertical distance between cases, measure the horizontal
distance for the tube, (enough for the 2" tube and the
cap.)
My units are standing on the floor for solid
support.
There are 2 pipe braces, half circle with left
and right flat extensions for a screw in each.
Standing
on the floor and with only the 2 piece braces in enough
to hold solid.
The is no pipe cement used anywhere, so
the units can be dismantled into pieces instantly.
All
piping is spray painted in whatever color you desire,
with the cheapest paint you can find.
7. What is Otherwrack?
The tube without the liner.
8. Can you ship via US Postal Service?
Priority mail.
I have 3 custom designed boxes at this point in single, six and twelve units,
the length is just under the maximum for postal shipments. If sales
volume requires, more sizes can be designed.
The boxes
are a priced item.
9. A word about the inserts.
I wanted plastic inserts originally, could not find a
manufacturer to do them.
One paper company, the same
one who makes my boxes, finally developed the present
liner that is corrugated cardboard.
One side is
black and the other natural brown.
They are scored 4
times on both sides for as many varieties of folding as
that will allow.
10. What is the purpose of the insert?
To make loading and unloading easy by sliding the insert out to load,
and pushing it back into the tube when it is loaded.
Also for looks, the black base contrasts nicely with the gray track.
11. What is the Rix Rail-It, N scale?
A plastic inclined ramp that is placed over the rails to slide the railcars onto the track.
